VIDEO ESSAY: Eat a Peach

Released 2/12/72

🍑Happy Eat a Peach Day🍑

Released February 12, 1972

DEDICATED TO A BROTHER, DUANE ALLMAN

Completed in the aftermath of Duane Allman's death, Eat a Peach is the band’s second consecutive double album. It stands as a transitional yet cohesive musical statement, blending live performances and studio recordings to showcase the band's original sound and their evolution.

The record spent 48 weeks on the charts, peaking at number 4. It features sides with Duane, and without, and demonstrates the band's maturity and creativity, incorporating influences from western swing and country to folk, electric blues, jazz-rock, and psychedelia.

🍄"Mountain Jam" is a masterwork of momentary composition, built around Donovan's "First There Is a Mountain"

🍑"Blue Sky" foreshadows a country-leaning direction for the band.

🍄"Melissa" was the first song Gregg Allman, and was a favorite of Duane's.

🍑The album closes with Duane's acoustic instrumental, "Little Martha," his only songwriting credit.
