Wow. That's deep -- and lengthy -- but sounds fascinating, especially to someone who's not particularly literary. But I see what you're talking about and quite easily get it. I'm from Georgia so that helps, so I'll come back to it a little prepared for the journey. If there's anything I felt like I had in common with the Allman Brothers it was the blues and the universality of the blues.

I hear you. This was a paper presented at an academic conference (the video). Southern Gothic is definitely more of a literary term than anything else but like you said, if you're familiar with the South in the 20th century, you'll pick up on it pretty quickly. The bottom line is that there was/is a lot of ugliness undergirding "genteel" Southern society.
