This album has had a magnetic hold on me ever since I fell in love with the ABB. I could go on and on, but I'm so glad you chose to put the spotlight on Lamar Williams and Dollar Gas. "Come and Go Blues" is the track that's had the deepest, most personal impact over the years. Funny how great music works. It's as if that recording found me instead of the other way around! Long live the ABB.

Come & Go Blues is among my ABBsolute all-time favorite Gregg songs. Amazing that that version is in front of 600,000 people. I came to the Allman Brothers in 1992 and skipped buying Wipe the Windows because it wasn't Duane and was supposedly of lesser quality because the band was in disarray. After seeing them for the first time in November 1993, I went & bought Wipe the Windows the *next* day. "If they're this good in 1993, imagine how great they were in 1973!" was my thinking. Helped really open up the entirety of the Allman Brothers to me. Because it opened my ears to the genius of the Chuck/Lamar lineup in a new way.

The Reed on this album is and was fantastic! It’s the world’s greatest love song and I’ll tell you that it inspired my girlfriend and I at the time to make incredible love!

What a coincidence! Just bought this used about a week ago. It’s been great listening to this version of the band. I just saw it in the bin and put it in my pile to purchase. Didn’t realize it was Live. Love the album!

Your Substack is a big part of my new found fascination with the ABB. Thank you.

Glad you dig it, and glad you dig the Substack. Good to have you here🍄

Wipe the Windows was overlooked and even panned when released. Capricorn was disintegrating and it was a very haphazard release, very little thought put behind it. But the band was shit hot, the biggest band in the country at the time, and it was the only official release from that period for many years. If you want to hear a full concert, here's 9/26/73 Winterland, which about half of Wipe the Windows comes from: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTE2qX_uNjr9L_M-qyjOim1fYdBYNMTo4&si=b6hjo9E58haT8uYx

(If you prefer music apps, look for the Brothers & Sisters Super Deluxe reissue.)

I like the version of Elizabeth Reef as it reimagines the song and puts it in a different light (the Live at Fillmore version is also a great favorite but sometimes you need to hear something differently). It’s difficult for me to imagine that a rendition of High Falls would have differed much from the WLD version.

Jessica varied enough in that era (and afterwards*) that I'm sure it would've been great. There are so few versions of Chuck/Lamar on that tune, which is a travesty.

*as did High Falls for that matter

Jessica is on Wipe The Windows.

a monstrous Jessica and Rambling Man

people forget dickey would solo for a solid four minutes on Ramblin Man

not just any country tune

Ramblin’ Man may be overplayed, but there’s a reason it was a #2 hit. It’s a damn good, catchy song.

It's fantastic. Just when you think you've heard it all, you get to hear that jam for the first time! I sent a link to the album to my trout fishing buddies who are all Allman Bros freaks. It def will light up some trout trips in the upper mid-west this spring!

My god, that Les Brers in A Minor is off the charts! How had I not heard this version before? Thanks!

ABBsolutely outstanding isn’t it?

Jessica with Chuck stands the test of time. Shocked it received no mention.

Great version for sure. Check footnote 4 for my favorite 45min of ABB music that includes an amazing Jessica

You inspired me to give a listen to Wipe The Windows. Took it with me on my walk this AM. I enjoyed it a bunch. Liz Reed has some great work from Chuck!

such a cool document of a very important time in Allman Brothers Band history. It's easy to overlook it because of how much great music they played before and after it.

#longlivetheAllmanBrothersBand!

November 13, 1993? I saw them on either side of that night, in Gainesville and Cocoa! Derek guesting in Gainesville on the first show after Dickey's summer break and a real Mountain Jam! Two nights later at the Brevard County Fair, we were on the stage. Dickey handed me his pick that night. In the spring, Gregg had been singing Dickey's new tune "Change My Way of Living" but Dickey was now singing it in November. Had backstage passes from HTN in Cocoa and met Warren, Woody, Jaimoe and Marc that night. They all signed my ABB bandanna, which is wrapped around my rear view mirror to this day.

ABBsolutely outstanding. I had no idea of the drama that had been going on, I just remember being BLOWN AWAY by the old songs AND the new ones, BWIAB just slayed me. But it was Mtn Jam that really got me good. I had no idea it was such a rarity.

I actually saw the Smashing Pumpkins the next night, another mind-blowingly psychedelic concert.

Bought the book yesterday. Coming with me to Key West next week. Will check in after. We met briefly in Ron E's room last summer in Atlanta
