Great selections. WW 2 changed the lives of our dads and moms who served, fought, and died. Like Willis Allman and his brother, my dad was 19 and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. I could never get him to open up about his experiences, only off-handed remarks and snippets of horrific situations. I understand many children of frontline infantrymen had the same experience. Sadly, after he passed we found a box of photos. My dad never wanted to be thanked. It was expected and he did what needed to be done. No fanfare and never drew attention to himself. Combat veterans no there is no glory in dying. You fight for your buddies to stay alive. He once told me many years ago that the real heroes were those who never came back. Amen. Agee years back, I was very moved when I hear that beautiful tune “Seen it in Color”. My parents survived the Great Depression as children and WW2 as young adults. Everything else -plus hard work and a little optimism - was more than enough. That’s what I’m think about on July 4th.
